"Earth" (motion picture), Russian silent film about class struggle in a Ukrainian farm village, written and directed by Alexander Dovzhenko. When the village chairman Vasilly (Semyon Svashenko) adds their land to the communal farm, a landowner`s son kills him. A native Ukrainian, Dovzhenko devoted much of this film to celebrating the country`s village life and fertile landscape.
