Auguste Vestris (1760-1842)

Auguste Vestris (1760-1842), French ballet dancer. Born in Paris, he was the son of the famed dancer Gaetan Vestris (by his mistress, Marie Allard, a prominent ballerina) and inherited his father`s sobriquet, the god of the dance. He debuted at the Paris Opera at the age of 12 and was principal dancer there for many years. His son, Auguste Armand Vestris, whom he trained, was a ballet master in London and Vienna.
